The Chambre Bleue, or Blue Room, had always been a haven for dreamers. Each week, the marquise de Rambouillet invited writers, artists, philosophers, and diplomats in to engage in a host of intellectual and oftentimes whimsical topics. Her salon was the talk of the glitterati of Paris.

”Why don’t we have a poetry recital next week? Oh, Thérèse, cherie, it’s been so long since we last heard your poésie d’amour!” said the marquise excitedly.

It used to be easy being the life of any party. My bon vivant soul always sought mischief and adventure miles away. I also had my way in weaving words that could charm anyone into my kingdom.

But, in the past year, someone else had stolen my heart and run away, leaving me restless and seeking faraway illusions.

Pastel peaches streaked the dusky sky with its last fading brilliance. Under the sky, the marquise’s garden resembled a splendorous open-theater. Ravishing white and purple blooms decorated the backdrop of the little stage, scenting the air with the sensual roses. A trail of fairy lights connected the trees on either ends above iron-clad chairs, encircled with guests and waiting to receive me.

I breathe in and let my love for Gabriel speak freely from the depths of my heart. I share my love story, masking it between riddles and fables. An angel who loved an enchantress. He basked her with eternal love. Every moment was a taste of heaven on earth. It was too intense for a mortal to fathom and so, she ran away from it, thinking it but a trap.

”Far from it,” calls a familiar voice. ”It is rare but true love, made in heaven and finding its way to our lucky hearts.”

Tears well up and I leave my stage, running into Gabriel’s open arms. He twirls me under the dazzling stars and fairy lights.

‘Together’ is a place I will always call Heaven.
