Your Sad Eyes

Every summer, the Palace of Versailles holds an enchanting ball, adorning the Hall of Mirrors with ravishing peachy Juliet roses, dove-white poppies, and dainty anemones. Small candles are scattered across the hall, embuing it with an ethereal ambience. And of course, the Royal Opera of Versailles is invited to entrance the palace guests with its rapturous music.

Every guest enters with splendor, looking forward to an evening of extravagance. Everybody was lost in festivity. I kept looking for invisible connections between me and others until I finally retreated to a quiet corner.

The mirrors reflect your searing gaze and its intensity makes me shyly turn away. But every time you look elsewhere, I lock my eyes on you, longing for you to notice me again.

Suddenly, you walk towards me and gently hold my hands. We sashay to the dance floor and start dancing with abandon.

You enchant me with your adventures and I lean my head close to your shoulder, like an angel feeling safe in your wings. But no matter how much you laugh, there is a visible sadness in your eyes. Their murky depths move me like a lost boat in a vast ocean. Yet I understand this familiar language because I’ve been broken too. We stop talking and our eyes continue its silent conversations.

You suddenly realize I’ve seen your soul behind this embellished mask you put on. Guarded, you confuse me, swirling me round and round, my sky blue dress floating above the floor. Yet, for a moment, time stands still. Because you know you’ve found something heavenly and now, your eyes light up like a distant star that remembered what joy was.

You take a chance and that was the beginning of everything beautiful.
