Way to your Heart

I wince every time I remember that day. The day I lost her… “I can’t do this anymore!” I yelled. “This is too complicated for me.” “What great love do we have if it’s not worth fighting for?” she asked; still hopeful I would change my mind. “Who said it was worth it?” I replied bitterly as a silent arrow pierced her delicate heart and left her speechless.
Now I was free to live my life without struggles. I chased sensual thrills with great gusto – leaving no pleasure untasted. It was exhilarating at first; the adrenaline rush, the constant admirations, the empty souls I dined with in the most exclusive locations.
As I retreated into myself, my heart whispered one name repeatedly… hers. I remembered her tender touch. Her effusive, yet shy smile. The way she bore her naked soul to only me. Our shared dreams. Memories gushed like a waterfall, watering my barren heart. It started beating again; madly. We could have overcome our struggles yet I had been selfish. I realized my grave mistake.

I called her number but it was switched off. Her friends told me she lives abroad and refused to tell me where in case I hurt her again.

I had to find her on my own. Where on earth could she be? I knew she loves travelling – she could be anywhere! But she had a childhood dream: to live in a chalet in the mountains and write.
The next thing I know; I was on a flight to Switzerland. As soon as I arrived, I got the phonebook directory and found her. Indeed, she was living in the mountains. It was already midday but I drove there for hours.

What if she’s moved on? My spirit disheartened. I wanted to see her angelic face one last time.

Finally, I reached and walked towards her chalet. I anxiously knocked on the door. No answer. I sighed and made my way down a path. I yearned for her more than anything.

There she was, sitting peacefully on a bench overlooking the sky streaked with pastel watercolors. I run to her; my heart yearning to reach her before the rest of me follows. “Is this seat taken?” I ask nervously.

She smiles and my heart falls for her forever. “It’s yours,” she says.

It’s true, my love. My heart has always been yours.
